Dr. John M. Barry Traveling Fellowship
Award in Transplantation
All Benefactors shall be acknowledged in the meeting program and website. Thank you for helping USTRS.
Dr. John Barry has had an illustrious and accomplished career as both a Urologist and a Transplant Surgeon. Upon finishing his medical training at the University of Minnesota Medical School, Dr. Barry completed his internship year at SUNY Upstate Medical Center followed by three years in the Air Force and a residency in Urology at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). He started as faculty the day after completing residency in 1973 and has remained at OHSU ever since. He was Director of Kidney Transplantation from 1976 to 2009, Head of the Division of Abdominal Organ Transplantation from 1990 to 1992, and Head of the Division of Urology and Renal Transplantation from 1979 to 2008. He is currently a Professor of Urology and a Professor of Surgery in the Division of Abdominal Organ Transplantation. He has been President of the American Urological Association, the American Board of Urology, the American Association of Genitourinary Surgeons, the Western Section of the American Urological Association, the Northwest Urological Society, the Oregon Urological Society, the Urologic Society of Transplantation and Renal Surgery (USTRS), the Western Association of Transplant Surgeons, and the Pacific Northwest Transplant Society. Dr. Barry has made significant contributions to the general transplant community through his involvement on the Board of Directors of the United Network for Organ Sharing. Dr. Barry’s passion for urology and transplantation is evident by his endless curiosity, constant pursuit of knowledge, and dedication to help all those around him rise to their greatest potential.
In the spirit of fostering the passion and excellence Dr. Barry perpetuates, the USTRS Board of Directors envisioned creation of a traveling fellowship award, to honor Dr. Barry and his contributions to urology and transplantation. This annual award will be adjudicated by the USTRS Board of Directors to improve the quality of surgical practice of transplant Urologists. All USTRS members (full, associate and international) will be eligible. The fellowship will enable the recipient to visit medical centers around the world, to study and gain experience in the application of new knowledge and techniques, or to further the pursuit of a project relevant to surgical practice or research in transplantation.
We are asking that you consider donating to the Dr. John M. Barry Fellowship Award in Transplantation. Our goal is to raise $50,000 USD to provide stable annual funding of this award for many years to come. All donations are tax deductible in both the US and Canada. Thank you in advance for your support of this tribute to Dr Barry.
